Preferred Techs
Keep private working terms with the technicians you use most — and let them answer for themselves
Preferred Techs
A Preferred Tech is a technician your company works with regularly on agreed terms — their rates, how far they travel without a charge, when they're available, and whether they bring a helper. You keep those terms on the technician's Preferred Tech page, and you can invite the technician to fill them in themselves.
Everything on the page is private to your company. Other companies never see it, and the technician sees only the terms and the questions you ask them — never your Preferred switch or your internal questions.
Opening a technician's Preferred Tech page
- Open the technician's profile — from Find Technicians, a map, or anywhere their name links.
- Click Preferred Tech (next to Internal Rating). Once you've saved terms, the button shows a summary, such as Preferred · $50.00/hr · 30 mi free.
What's on the page
- Preferred Tech switch — marks the technician as one of your preferred techs. It's separate from the Internal Rating: a tech can be Vetted and Preferred.
- Rates — one row per rate, using the same rate editor as everywhere else. Use each row's description for when it applies (business hours, after hours, weekends, holidays). The starred row is the standard rate.
- Free travel radius — miles from the technician's marketplace address with no travel charge.
- Travel rate beyond the free radius — a flat amount, per mile, or per hour of travel, and whether it's one way or round trip.
- Availability — weekdays business hours, weekdays after hours, weekends, holidays, overnight.
- Helper — whether they have a helper, and the helper's hourly rate.
- Your questions — anything else your company asks (see below).
Inviting the technician to answer
- Click Invite to answer. The technician gets a notification and an email with a link.
- They answer however they want — their own rates and terms — and press Send answers. You get a notification.
- Review their answers, then click Accept terms, or Request changes with a note (for example, "Could you do $55/hr for business hours?"). The technician sees your note and can update their answers.
Technicians can only answer when you've invited them. They can change their answers later; when they do, you're notified and the terms go back to waiting for your review.
You can also fill in the terms yourself — for example, from answers a technician sent you by email.
Your questions
Click Your questions to set up the questions your company asks every technician. Each question has an answer type — text, number, yes/no, pick one, or pick any — and an audience:
- The technician answers — included when you invite a technician.
- Internal — only your company answers and sees it, such as which clients you've submitted the technician's coverage to.
Your company starts with a few questions you can edit or remove. Removing a question keeps any answers already given, and you can bring it back.
Finding your preferred techs
On Find Technicians and the Active Technician Map, preferred techs show a ★ Preferred badge in the list beside the map, and the map popup shows their rate, free travel radius and availability. Click Preferred only to see just your preferred techs. On a technician's profile, the Preferred Tech button shows the same amber badge.
For technicians: company invitations
When a company invites you, you'll get a notification and an email, and a banner across the top of every page until you answer. All your invitations are under Company invitations — there's a link to it on Available Work. Each company sees only the answers you give it. Rate rows save as you add them; press Send answers to let the company know. You can come back and update your answers any time.
