Joining a Company as an Employee
A technician with their own account joins a company they work with, and can return to independent work later.
Joining a company as an employee
A technician who works under their own account can become an employee of a company they already work with through its Private Network. Either side can start the request, and nothing changes until both sides approve. The technician always approves with their password, so no account is ever moved without its owner saying yes.
Who can start a request
- A company: the owner or an admin opens a Private Network technician's profile and clicks Invite to join as an employee.
- A technician: the owner of a one-person account opens the company's page under Clients, Private Network Clients and clicks Ask to join.
Requests are only possible between a company and a technician on its Private Network. A request expires after 7 days.
What happens when both sides approve
- The technician becomes an employee of the company with the Technician role. The company can change the role on Admin, Users.
- They log in with the same email and password, and land in the company's account.
- Their profile, skills, tools and credentials are copied to their employee record.
- Their marketplace and Private Network track record follows them: completed Site Visits, on-time record, no-shows and favorites. Internal employee jobs never do.
- Their own account is kept read-only with all of its history. It is never deleted.
- Their Private Network memberships end. The company can add them to its own networks.
- Any paid plan or add-on on their own account is cancelled right away, and the unused part is refunded.
Before the technician can approve
The request page shows a checklist. Everything marked with a red icon must be cleared first:
- Site Visits for other companies that are still open.
- Marketplace work that is finished but not paid out yet, and payouts still on their way.
- Open marketplace requests or offers, Private Network offers and pay change requests.
- Their own Site Visits that are still open, and money put up for Site Visits that hasn't been paid out or refunded.
- Unspent client funds. Withdraw them from Client Funds first.
Items with an amber icon are reminders and don't block the request: Private Network work with no payment recorded, and customer invoices that are still unpaid.
The company needs a free user seat on its plan before it can approve.
Where to find your requests
Every request you're part of is listed under Employee requests. You also get a notification and an email when the other side starts, approves, declines or cancels a request.
Your independent history
After joining, your own account's Site Visits and your earnings by year are under My Account, Your independent work, See your independent history. It's read-only, and you can download it.
Returning to independent work
A technician who joined a company this way can ask to go back to their own account from My Account, Your independent work, Ask to return to independent work. It works like joining: the company's owner or an admin approves, and the technician approves with their password.
- Before approving, any Site Visits they're still on must be finished or reassigned, and open offers or requests naming them withdrawn.
- They go back to their own account with all of its history, and their latest profile, skills and tools.
- Their marketplace and Private Network track record is kept. Internal jobs for the company stay with the company.
- Their employee record at the company is kept, inactive.
- Their own account starts on the free plan, and they can rejoin any Private Networks they want.
If the company that hired them ever closes its Service Envoy account, the technician's own account is reopened for them automatically.
