Active Technician Map

See where your technicians are, find who is near a job, and check a whole job list for coverage

The Active Technician Map shows every technician you can dispatch on one map, along with the site visits you have posted that nobody has taken yet. Use it to see who is near a job, to email a group of technicians at once, or to check a client's whole job list for coverage in one go.

Opening the map

Click Active Technician Map at the top of any page, or the Active Technician Map button on the Technicians page. It opens in its own browser tab, so you can leave it open all day beside your other work. The site navigation is on the map page too, so you can move to any other page from there.

The map is part of the Technician Network add-on, and your role needs the Active Technician Map permission. If you don't see it, ask your company admin.

What's on the map

The row of chips above the map shows how many of each there are. Click a chip to hide or show that group. Hover over or click a pin to see the technician's name, phone and email.

Each technician is placed at the address on their record. A new or changed address takes a few minutes to appear. While it waits, the map shows how many are awaiting geocoding, and a Geocode pending button places them right away. An address that can't be found, such as a PO box, is counted as couldn't be located. Fix the address on the technician's record and it will appear.

Finding technicians near a place

Type a place in the search box and pick a distance. You can type:

When the distance is set to Any distance, a searched place uses 100 miles. The map tells you when it does this. The search runs as you type. Clear the box to zoom back out.

Filtering technicians

The list beside the map

The list shows the technicians in your search, or everyone on the map when nothing is searched, along with the available site visits. Click a name to find that technician on the map. Click a phone number to call, or an email address to write to one technician. Email all writes to everyone in the list. Each person gets their own private copy, and you can untick anyone before you send.

Bulk coverage: checking a whole job list

When a client sends a list of jobs, Bulk coverage shows who is near each one and which jobs have nobody nearby.

  1. Click Bulk coverage beside the search box.

  2. Upload a CSV or Excel file, or paste the list. You can paste straight from an email or a web page, even when each cell lands on its own line. Click Read list.

  3. Check the columns it picked: the job name (such as a work order number), street address, ZIP, city and state. Each job is placed by its ZIP, or by its city and state when the ZIP is missing. Click Place on map.

Each job appears as a numbered square with a ring showing the search distance. A blue square has at least one technician in range. A red square is a gap: nobody is within the distance. To change the distance, change the distance box above the map and the results update straight away.

The list beside the map shows every job with its nearest technicians. Use the Covered, Gaps and Not found buttons to see one group at a time. A job is Not found when its ZIP or city couldn't be located, so check it on the list. From the list you can:

When you email from Bulk coverage, the email window offers Add each person's nearby job locations, ticked by default. Each technician's email then ends with a short list of the jobs within range of them, shown as city, state and ZIP only, such as "Perryville, MO 63775". A technician never sees jobs that aren't near them. Nothing else from your list is sent: no street addresses, site or client names, rates or other details. The window lists every technician you are emailing with exactly the locations their email will show, so you can check them before you send. Untick the box to send the message without the list.

Bulk coverage only looks at the technicians on your map, with your filters and chips applied. Hide a group or filter by a skill first, and only those technicians count. Click X on the list to close it, or Load a different list to start again.
